David W. Van Horne

Experience
Mr. Van Horne advises individuals and families in the accumulation, preservation, management, and transfer of wealth, often in the form of real estate.

He designs and implements estate plans which are responsive to desired generational transitions, and suitable for conserving, maximizing, and transferring the assets involved. He is experienced with trusts, wills, and other traditional transfer vehicles. His practice frequently involves developing lifetime ownership structures, such as family limited partnership and limited liability companies, through which liability exposure is limited, younger generations become involved with the stewardship of family assets, and gift and estate taxes are minimized.

Mr. Van Horne counsels clients in achieving their philanthropic goals through charitable lead trusts, charitable remainder trusts, donor advised funds, supporting organizations, and where circumstances warrant, private foundations. He finds that his long involvement with educational, cultural, and community organizations enables him to maximize his clients' charitable objectives.

Mr. Van Horne maintains an active transactional real estate practice advising clients in the acquisition, ownership, and disposition of high-value residential, agricultural, and commercial properties. With his involvement in his family's agricultural operations, he offers practical experiences with reciprocal easement arrangements, shared water production and delivery systems, and viewshed and other protective agreements which preserve and enhance the values of the properties.
